USWAR/Russia backs Arab
League demand for UN Security Council meeting
Moscow, March 25, IRNA -- Russia agrees with the Arab League demand to
hold an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the
Iraq war, Russian foreign ministry official Andrei Granovski said on
Tuesday.
Arab League foreign ministers in Cairo on Monday asked the UN
Security Council to convene an urgent meeting with a view to halting
the US-led invasion of Iraq.
"If the Security Council fails to act, the Arab League will ask
for an urgent meeting of the general Assembly," the resolution issued
by the 22-member Arab League said except for Kuwait which expressed
reservation.
